My love of Perfume

A women who doesn’t wear perfume has no future – Coco Chanel

I always write ‘Magic Potion’ on my perfume bottles so when I use them, it feels magical – I make spells in the morning when I put them on – Alexa Chung

Wear perfume wherever you want to be kissed – Coco Chanel

I have loved perfume since I was young and it seems I’m not alone. In the UK alone we spend millions every year on perfume. Bestselling is Chanel’s Chance which is a perfume I actually haven’t tried.

Perfumes began in ancient Egypt, and was further refined by the Romans and Persians. So I’m following in some very fine footsteps.

My love affair started when I was 16 with Anais Anais. Perfume can transport me back right away and I only need a whiff and I’m 16 again on my first foreign holiday!

Here are a few of my favourites. Would love to know what your favourites are.

Cacharel Anais Anais. The year is 1988. I’m 16 and going to Spain on my first holiday abroad. Feeling all grown up I treat myself to Anais Anais in the airport. I have no clue why it was this particular perfume although Anais Anais was really popular then. Anais Anais is really floral but with a little spicy element.

Body Shop White Musk. Again this was quite an early discovery. I love the musky ness with a little floral of white musk.

Chanel Number 5. Another early discovery. Also my most favourite perfume ever. Marilyn Monroe was once asked what she wore to bed and she said Chanel No 5. If it’s good enough for Marilyn it’s good enough for me!

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir. A couple of years ago I went on a shopping trip with a friend and we went to the Jo Malone shop. What I loved was the whole experience. We got a lovely little hand massage and free samples of Jo Malone perfumes. One of the free samples was Pomegranate Noir and I was hooked there and then. I also have the candle for home which I love to burn. I read her autobiography recently and it was fascinating. She started from nothing and made her own products and grew the company. Very inspirational.

Estee Lauder Beautiful. A couple of paragraphs ago I said that Chanel No 5 was my favourite perfume. Hhhmmm I do love it but I also love Beautiful too. I always wear Beautiful when I want to feel feminine and girly. Beautiful is very floral which I love.

Dior’s Dolce Vita. This has to be my most favourite perfume bottle. It’s so pretty! The perfume is lovely. It’s quite spicy and oriental. It’s my go to perfume when I want to feel in control.

Hi I’m Jo and…….

………………………..I’m rather partial to a handbag! I say handbag but it’s actually all bags and I don’t mind old or new! I would say I probably love my bags as much as some people love their children 😉

I love a vintage bag, I love the history of the bags. I make up a little story about the ladies who have owned my bags before me. It’s always glamourous! In fact I have started a business selling vintage bags. My company is called Scarlet Bags. It’s early days and I’ve only got a Facebook page but I hope to set up my website shortly. Watch this space 😉

Saying that though a very good friend of mine brought me a beautiful Burberry bag for Christmas and I love it, again almost as much as most people love their children 😉

My bags have left a lasting impression on me far more than anything else. I once had a handbag in the shape of a dog and I would get so many comments when I used it. I loved that bag and I’ve never found one like it since.

In the photo’s below are a few of my favourite babies 🙂
